OpSec TailsOS

This is a selection of peer-reviewed applications that we install separately from the standard TailsOS. Each application has been carefully vetted to ensure it aligns with TailsOS’s core principles of privacy, security, and decentralisation. These additional tools provide users with enhanced capabilities for secure operations, decentralised communication, and privacy preservation, while maintaining the integrity of the TailsOS environment.

Sparrow Wallet is a privacy-focused Bitcoin wallet that offers advanced features such as coin control, hardware wallet integration, and multi-signature support. It allows users to have complete control over their Bitcoin transactions and ensures a high level of privacy through features like Tor integration and the ability to use your own full node. By including Sparrow Wallet on our custom TailsOS image, we are empowering users with a secure and private way to manage their Bitcoin, reinforcing TailsOS’s commitment to anonymity and decentralisation.

Cake Wallet is a privacy-centric mobile wallet designed for Monero (XMR), allowing users to store, send, and receive Monero securely. It provides features such as simple, intuitive design, support for multiple accounts, and integration with the Tor network to ensure privacy. By including Cake Wallet on our custom TailsOS image, we are offering users a secure and private way to manage their Monero transactions, enhancing the privacy features of TailsOS while promoting decentralisation and anonymity in the cryptocurrency space.

Snort and Iris are decentralised Nostr clients that facilitate secure, private, and censorship-resistant communication. Snort is a minimalist client focused on simplicity and speed, while Iris offers a more feature-rich experience, including multi-platform support and enhanced privacy features. Both clients allow users to send and receive messages, follow accounts, and interact with the Nostr network, which is built to be resistant to censorship and surveillance. By including Snort and Iris on our custom TailsOS image, we are equipping users with powerful tools for secure, decentralised communication, aligning with TailsOS’s core focus on privacy and anonymity.

BIP39 (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal 39) is a standard that defines how to create a human-readable mnemonic phrase (often called a seed phrase) for generating deterministic wallets. These phrases are typically 12 or 24 words long and serve as a backup method for recovering wallets. Ian Coleman's BIP39 tool is an open-source, web-based application that allows users to generate BIP39 mnemonic phrases, derive keys, and manage their wallet recovery process securely, without the need for a central server. By including Ian Coleman's BIP39 tool on our custom TailsOS image, we provide users with a secure, offline means to manage and recover their cryptocurrency wallets while maintaining privacy and decentralisation.

Mempool.space is a visualisation tool that provides real-time data on Bitcoin’s mempool, allowing users to track unconfirmed transactions and monitor network congestion. It offers a user-friendly interface to view transaction fees, block size, and other key metrics, helping users optimise their Bitcoin transactions for faster confirmation times. By including Mempool.space on our custom TailsOS image, we are providing users with an essential resource for monitoring and managing their Bitcoin transactions, while ensuring privacy and security in a decentralised environment.

Hodl Hodl and RoboSats are decentralised peer-to-peer platforms that enable users to buy and sell Bitcoin securely without the need for intermediaries. Hodl Hodl allows users to trade directly with one another, using escrow services to ensure trust and privacy. RoboSats, on the other hand, is an automated, non-custodial exchange that allows users to trade Bitcoin for gift cards or other payment methods, ensuring full privacy. By including these platforms on our custom TailsOS image, we are empowering users with private, secure, and decentralised options for trading Bitcoin, aligning with TailsOS’s core values of privacy and anonymity.
